Winter Stars & Stripes By Demac

The drive for the uninitiated up highway 95 from Boston en route to New Hampshire in the United States was started with the usual trepidation of driving on the wrong side of the road. For some obscure reason In the United States they drive on the right hand side. I am still yet to find out the real reason, as there are many theories.
Boston is a beautiful city of some 500,000 citizens with many Universities and 1 not happy policeman. Whilst I didn’t manage to get his photograph his face is forever embedded into the back of my brain. Why don’t Americans understand the Aussie sense of humour? All I was trying to do was lighten the moment, and perhaps get out of the speeding ticket. Which, I might add I was successful at, thanks in the main to my American host who quickly explained I was from a primitive jungle in Australia, some far off continent.
Our destination was Kennebunk, a pretty town we had heard about on the east coast about a days drive from Boston allowing for quite a few pit stops. We just had to visit Salem, a city steeped in history and all to do with Witches. It may be most widely known as the site of the Salem witchcraft trials of 1692, but this colourful, coastal city has much to offer visitors: a culturally diverse population, a rich maritime heritage, an impressive display of historic architecture and amazing stories that span almost four centuries, well worth our stop.
Onward we go heading North keeping to the speed limit and avoiding huge semi trailers. Miles per hour also doesn’t compute to kilometres per hour! The road goes in and out along the coastline passing many small towns and we take the time to look, even if it is only a few minutes, to take in the different culture.
